The Best Practices Hub Vienna is the UN-HABITAT Best Practices regional centre for Central and Eastern Europe (including countries in Asia with territories in Europe). As such it is responsible for collecting projects and programmes in this area for the Best Practices database.
In 1996 at the first collection of programmes worldwide for HABITAT II conference in Istanbul, only ten projects from CEE countries were submitted.
The centre in Vienna was set up to strengthen the knowledge about the potentiality of becoming inspired by, learning from and documenting Best Practices as powerful planning tool. Until 2004 181 good and best practices examples could be identified in the region.
In 2004, a project from UZBEKISTAN - Business Women of Uzbekistan - won the prestiguous Dubai Award for Best Practices and presented its experiences to the international community.
We have worked up 17 practices in english and german for the internet pages of the Best Practices Hub - Vienna.
